Research from the VIDEOACT project was presented in the context of the annual Turkish Film Studies conference held at Kadir Has University, Istanbul. The theme of this year’s conference was “Women”; as a result, a gendered perspective was foregrounded in relation to the research results. Şirin provided a feminist analysis of documentary films made by new wave filmmakers on Turkish migration to Germany from women’s perspectives. She argued that the films are feminist practices because they expand the sphere of representation of women, working against their historical invisibility in order to write women into history.
